artist’s eye

artists understand one thing: every day has the power to change your life.

in this section, i want to explore how i’ve learned to find the point where experiences and good ideas meet. i believe everyone encounters moments of brilliance — artists are just the ones who notice them, who see every tiny thing as material and opportunity.

as artists, we have to train our brain to be a generator of ideas, which means going out into the world and seeing things. eavesdropping on the couple sitting next to you in a cafe. and essentially leeching from your environment, sucking as much stimuli as your brain can manage.

this section will be used to explore some of the everyday moments i’ve encountered in which i see potential for future projects, and it will be the place i keep these ideas so i can remember them.

since i’m just getting started, here are some ideas i’ll be exploring in the coming weeks. i’ll be elaborating on them and hopefully it can serve as a reminder that every moment contains so much, if we just have the right eyes for it:

  • light strikes a newspaper pressed against a man’s lap one evening.
  • a dark woman, pale skin, green eyes, monstrous art on her little device.
  • a starbucks coffee near home, an old man and a duffle bag.
  • one paranoid writer, a bottle cap dropping to the floor in a corner of their bedroom.
